It’s no secret that Hamilton’s food scene is excellent, but there has been an explosion of independent bars and breweries popping up in the city recently.
Bar Sazerac
Jonesing for a fancy cocktail? Bar Sazerac is your place. Located on James St N with a great little private patio.
Bernie’s Tavern
Relaxed bar and grill with a killer tap list. By the same folks who brought you Shorty’s Pizza (yes, you can get a slice with your pint).
Farside
Sister restaurant to a Toronto original, Farside is a laidback bar with craft beer, classic cocktails and snacks.
Red Church
Part cafe/part bar/part gallery across from Gore Park.
The Brain
Cozy, eclectic bar on James N serving up a rotating list of craft beer and cocktails.
The Capitol Bar
Fantastic cocktails and wine list, great food and even hosts a weekly Sunday Roast Dinner. It’s become a neighbourhood favourite on King East
Blackbird Brewery
New kid on the block in the former Rousseau House in Ancaster. Part brewery, part restaurant.
Clifford Brewing Co – representing the East End. Try the East Hamilton Lager or Devil’s Punchbowl IPA.
Collective Arts – located on Burlington St, besides great beer (and gin) this brewery is known for their ever-changing cans that feature the work of artists. Offers a great tasting room/bar and frequently hosts events ranging from live music to comedy nights.
Fairweather Brewing Co – another West End brewer with some experimental flavours and a huge patio and event space.
Grain & Grit – West End brewery with a great selection and beautifully designed cans. If you like IPAs, try Homebound.
Merit – Fantastic beer selection in a great space and menu on James N.
Shawn & Ed – Dundas brewery opened by two Mac grads (Shawn & Ed, obviously). Great Lagers and beer pies – yes, you heard that right.
