Tell us a bit about yourself.

Head brewer and co-founder of MERIT Brewing Co. James St north. We’ve been brewing here since March 2017, opened may 11, 2017. Raised in Niagara where I got my appreciation for gardening, cooking and of course pizza. Big cheese, pizza, wine, beer, and all around home cooking fanatic. History and food connect us all.

Why did you move to Hamilton?

I missed Hamilton, went to mohawk college for business – marketing early 2000’s. Met my business partner while in school here. We left to hone our skills in our industries and then knew we wanted to come back to Hamilton. Been back home since 2016. Love this city and the people that make it home. It’s one of the first places I miss when I’m not here.

What neighbourhood are you living in and why did you choose it?

Lansdale neighbourhood. I love the proximity to downtown and work, the market, bars and restaurants, groceries stores and all amenities are close by. Very walkable and friendly place.

What surprised you most about the city?

The local support and community driven help and groups available for everyone. The passion and drive to make this place home, the sense of pride and strength that has formed over the hardships and history of the place. The history is amazing as well, it’s a city of firsts with an amazing list of historical first and incredible history. Read into it you’ll fall in love.

Any advice for people considering making the move?

It’s a beautiful place with lovely people, you never know who you’re going to meet. There’s beauty within the reviving city with amazing hidden gems, slow down and take it in. The parks are breathtaking and the waterfront is just perfect. Respect everyone and show kindness while out and about. Remember to signal while driving and respect pedestrians crossing the streets.
