Tell us a bit about yourself.
Mid century goofball 🙂 I have a Federal Government desk job to pay the bills and like to dabble in my Interior Design background. I have a profound love for plants, gardens, architecture, vintage and interior design. Turning 50 this year and I’m loving life to the fullest!

Why did you move to Hamilton?
Came here with almost zero knowledge of Hamilton or it’s surroundings to follow my spouse for his career and start a new life here. A couple of years later and after a crappy divorce; I made the choice to stay in this city and buy again because after living an many cities and countries in my life… Hamilton checked all the boxes to make me happy and rebuild a life here.

What neighbourhood are you living in and why did you choose it?
I’ll be honest…. I chose Barton Village for the price point and the fact that I’d be able to own a small century home and still be able to on one salary make it my dream home. It was 5 years ago and the neighborhood has much improved and it’s cleaning itself up.

What surprised you most about the city?
How friendly and welcoming everyone is. I know most people on my street now by name. Something that never happened in Toronto. Even with the bad reputation Hamilton has, I have never felt unsafe on the street or in my home. It has a huge artist community and such a cool gritty vibe. Lots of great small stores and awesome restaurants within walking distance. I almost never use my car now. Also finding a doctor or access to good healthcare is relatively easy compared to other big cities.

Any advice for people considering making the move?
Walk around the neighborhoods you like. Talk to people and get a true feeling of the area. Having a realtor that lives here and knows the beat def saves you from missteps! When we first bought with my ex I was told to stay far away from where I am now… So happy I looked outside the box for my second purchase! I’ve never been happier here! I know … whodathunk!

If someone was visiting Hamilton for the first time, what would be the top three places you would recommend them checking out?
Hummmm I’m a huge walker and come across so many fun spots in my adventures… our harbour front and Pier 8 is pretty special and breathtaking. Walking around Ottawa street is always a good time and it’s rare you leave empty handed. If you like quirky and great food you have to go to Mai Pai on Barton! Hands down the best and most unique pizza flavors and drinks!
