Farside Bar

You can find Farside at the corner of James N & Barton. Owners Rachel & Mike brought the good vibes of this Toronto staple to Hamilton when they moved here themselves.

Tell us about yourself and your business.

FARSIDE is a relaxed, local bar. We offer craft beer, and classic cocktails, local wine and bar snacks. We project VHS tapes on the wall, and run a DIY art gallery. We love to support the local community and the arts. We are me (Rachel Conduit) and my partner, Mike Reynolds. We’re also partners in life and parenting.

Farside is the sister bar to the original location in Toronto – what inspired you to bring it to Hamilton?

We moved to Hamilton in 2019. We opened a Farside here because we thought it would be a great way to meet people and make friends.

What can people expect when they come in for a drink?
They can expect bright colours, chill music, craft beer, friendly people, and lots of interesting videos being played.

Your message is that anyone and everyone should feel welcome. Tell us more about why inclusivity is important to your business.

I couldn’t imagine being non-inclusive. I’m sorry that there are still places out there that make people feel unwelcome. Everyone deserves a “second living room” a place where they can gather and feel at home.

You’re located at James N & Barton, What do you love about the neighbourhood?

The restaurant and bar community here is wonderful and welcoming. All of our neighbours have been kind and supportive of us. I love the vibrancy of the neighbourhood, and the mix of people that come in. It’s a joy to participate in Art Crawl too.

Besides your own place, where (or what) else do you like to drink and eat in Hamilton?

We like…. The Brain, Sazerac, Martello, Mai Pai, Bon Temps, The Argyle.
