Kristel & John

Tell us a bit about yourself.

Kristel is the bookstore manager at Redeemer University. John is the Director of Culinary Operations at Equal Parts Hospitality which owns the French, Aberdeen Tavern and the Diplomat. They married in 2019, and have a son; Jack who is a happy, busy toddler.

Why did you move to Hamilton?

John moved to Hamilton to begin work at The French. Kristel moved to Hamilton to attend Redeemer in 2002 and never left.

What neighbourhood are you living in and why did you choose it?

We live in Durand, and we love it. We wanted to find a place that was close to the restaurants. We live the accessibility of downtown, great walking, close to a park, and close to many of our friends.

What surprised you most about the city?

We are constantly surprised at how close everything is, even though Hamilton has a large footprint. It doesn’t take long to get across the city, to the water, up the escarpment. And Hamilton is full of so many different, unique pockets of entertainment, culinary options and more.

Any advice for people considering making the move?

Get a realtor who knows every part of the city, and get out and be part of the community. There are so many opportunities to be part of your neighbourhood, and your city.

If someone was visiting Hamilton for the first time, what would be the top three places you would recommend them checking out?

Obviously go eat at the French, Aberdeen Tavern and the Diplomat. Go for a walk on the paths at Bayfront Park, and stop in at La Bichette for the latest in beautiful clothing.
